Draft Public Environment Report (PER)

12 February – 11 March 2026
Federal government environmental approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999One submission was received seeking further information about environmental offsets

Did you know?

Under the EPBC Act, environmental offsets are measures taken to compensate for remaining adverse impacts from a project or activity. Powerlink has carried out detailed studies to carefully plan this project and reduce environmental impacts wherever possible. Sometimes, impacts can’t be avoided altogether, and this is where environmental offsets are used.

For this project, Powerlink is proposing to meet offset requirements through land‑based conservation activities. This involves protecting and managing suitable properties in the same regions as the affected plants and animals, to support wildlife and improve habitat over time.

Following consultation, the PER was updated and has now been submitted to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) for assessment. DCCEEW will consider public submissions from the Draft PER as part of their assessment process, before deciding whether to approve the project, and under what conditions. You can view the Final PER on Powerlink’s online Community Hub, at the Gladstone City Library or the State Library of Queensland.
